Welsh Landscape

“A development formed from my relationship with the Welsh Landscape- through layering, scraping and drawing into the paint I have coaxed my own icons to symbolise for me a past of the Celtic past”

Celebration of a Life

This work was dedicated to my husband when trying to make sense of his sudden death. The exhibition was held at The Ropewalk Gallery Barton on Humber Lincolnshire in 2017.

“These compositions offer a glimpse of what I remember of those childhood memories with my parents and then with my own children when travelling to the seaside”

About Gillian Ross- Kelsey

I was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire and I am a member of the Lincolnshire Artist Society. I graduated from Camberwell Art School with a B.A. and later obtained an M.A. at Nottingham Trent University.

I have been through many stages in the many years of my painting career, following my own route from figurative works towards abstract minimalism, where I continued to explore colour, shape and texture, styles and ideas.

I like to feel directly involved in the use of paint, using brushes and rollers in these paintings. I believe in allowing the paintings ‘freedom to paint themselves’ and ‘elicit a sense of surprise in me’ as they express themselves. I take it as far as I can and feel that expresses my way forward.

Gillian Ross-Kelsey.

Her early art school training encouraged her to become fully engaged in the London Arts Scene which helped her to realise the importance of maintaining a broad skill base as well as a growing familiarity with the rapid art and design movements from the early 60’s onwards”.
